BAD LANGENSALZA. Those who associated the name ‘12 Cellists’ exclusively with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra should familiarise themselves with a new constellation: during the past two years the 12 Thüringer Cellisten have been successfully establishing their own profile. Moreover, they have proved those wrong who think that low strings are limited to accompanying orchestral playing. read_more

Musical Summer: Cellists in the Palace Garden
Heaven favours the 12 Thüringer Cellisten.
During the open-air concert in front of the Kochberg castle, with its charming little theatre, the weather was kind to us and musicians and audience stayed dry.
KOCHBERG.
A diverse and humorous concert with music from the baroque era to the 21st century: The 12 Thüringer Cellisten enchanted the audience with surprising musical arrangements. Even the often sentimentalized Adagio by Samuel Barber sounded pleasantly profound in their version.
[....] Apparently nobody could resist the charm of ingeniously arranged Wild West melodies and the original compositions of ensemble member Kars Keen. He was singing in musical-hall style about the “Little Things” that make life more beautiful. Well, big things like this concert do so too!

Der erste Streich – Live
CD release, available from 01 Oct 2007
Alexander Courage ---- Manuel de Falla ---- Hanns Eisler ---- Kars Keen ---- Heitor Villa-Lobos ---- Christian Jost ---- Erich Kästner ---- Jochen Breuer ---- Johann Sebastian Bach ---- Erwin Bootz ---- Milton Ager ---- Ulf Annel
The CD Der Erste Streich is the debut album of the ensemble. Most of the titles are live recordings from their concert in Gera. Two pieces were produced separately: Christian Jost’s Images & Shadows takes the listener into the world of the Cosa Nostra. Kars Keen’s Starfish is a rock piece for twelve cellos. Both works appear on CD for the first time.
Furthermore there are the professional adaptations of works ranging from Johann Sebastian Bach to Star Trek and the Comedian Harmonists. In addition, Wolfgang Jahn reads excerpts from Erich Kästner’s Die 13 Monate and recites humorous impressions from the Erfurt cabarettist Ulf Annel. This well balanced programme of humour and artistic skills also impressed Wolfgang Tiefensee, cellist and former Federal Minister of Transport who became patron of the project Der Erste Streich.
